LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy is a video game released by LucasArts on September 12, 2006, based on the Star Wars-themed toy line by the LEGO Group, and the sequel to the highly successful LEGO Star Wars: The Video Game. The game was released concurrently with the highly-anticipated DVDs of the original, unaltered films of the original trilogy. The game is available on the Xbox, Xbox 360, PlayStation 2, GameCube, PlayStation Portable, Nintendo DS, Game Boy Advance, and PC.

The Nintendo DS and Game Boy Advance versions are in portable style, as opposed to the original's presence on only the Game Boy Advance.

Description[]

While the original game was based on the prequel trilogy, the sequel gives a humorous look at the three movies of the original trilogy: A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi.

The game was developed by Traveller's Tales, who was also responsible for the original. Publishing duties were taken up by LucasArts (replacing the original's Eidos Interactive). It features a total of 114 playable characters, 56 of them unlockable by having a saved game from LEGO Star Wars on the memory card or hard drive (and the others must be bought in the cantina, or unlocked during gameplay). The game also includes several new features, including vehicles, character-specific abilities, and customizable characters.

Mos Eisley Cantina[]

In Star Wars: Episode 4, the Mos Eisley Cantina appears for the very first time. In LEGO Star Wars II, it appears again. There are some places to go to in the cantina.

Counter[]

Here, you can use your collected studs to buy assorted LEGO Star Wars idums, and more.

  • Hints: Troubled with something on the game? This will help you out.
  • Characters: Buy droids (besides R2 and C3PO), Sith, and other characters on the game you can't get playing the levels.

  • Enter Code: Enter a cheat code to get an item or character without paying.
  • Gold Bricks: Buy gold bricks to get closer to colecting all the bricks.

As opposed to Dexter from the first game, Wuher allows the player to purchase characters, hints, and extras. The player is also able to customize characters, save them, and then use them in Free Play Mode, and go outside for street fights.

Bounty Hunter Missions[]

Once all six of the bounty hunter characters have been unlocked and bought in the cantina, the bounty hunter room (a singular doorway found between Episodes IV and V, marked with Jabba's face) opens, allowing the player to access 10 special mini-areas. Each of these areas, consisting of part of one of the earlier chapters from the main episodes, has a Star Wars character hidden away somewhere. Using the bounty hunters, the player has to hunt down the hidden character within an allotted time to receive a gold brick and some LEGO studs.

Bounty hunters[]

The following characters are at the player's disposal:

  • Greedo
  • Boba Fett
  • IG-88
  • Bossk
  • Dengar
  • 4-LOM

Each mission requires the use of particular bounty hunters depending on the situation. For instance, IG-88 or 4-LOM may be needed to operate a protocol or astromech panel, following which Boba Fett may be needed to hover across a chasm.

The following 10 characters are hidden away:

Unfortunately, after completing the task, you are not rewarded with another gold brick.
  • 99: When you have collected all 99 gold bricks in the game, you will unlock a stud fountain outside the cantina which spits out numerous silver, gold and blue studs every four seconds.
Note: If you stay in the same spot, the LEGO studs will not fall where you are standing. This is avoidable by using a jetpack character (Boba Fett) or a ghost character (Anakin Skywalker, Ben Kenobi, or Yoda).

Custom Characters[]

One of the new additions of LSW2 is that you can create your own characters with various powers. For example, a character with a red lightsaber and Boba Fett's helmet can use the Force and open bounty hunter doors. This saves time from switching around trying to find a certain necessary character.

Combinations:

  • Santa Claus-Use the cheat 'CL4U5H' and 'TYH319'. Construct a character with a red hat, red clothes, black belt, white cape (optional), black gloves (hands), a weapon of your choice, and Obi-Wan's head. Then, in the start menu, select extras, go down to 'disguise' and toggle through it until you reach the number 3. Go play as him in free play.
  • Evil Boba Fett-Get Boba's Fett helmet, any body and put a red lightsaber. He will have the following abilities:
    • Throw Thermal Detonators
    • Bounty Hunter access
    • Dark force power.
  • Naked Guy-Known as a humorous Combination, the player can customize a character to make it "Nude". Just find the head with a smiley face on it, then find the rest of the body part, which have to be the same color: Blond. Then your character will be naked.
  • C-3PO, The Killer-Get C-3PO's head, body, and legs. Then add a pistol to it then you got a crazy dude.

Guide to weapons[]

  • Blaster: A normal blaster, e.g. Leia's blaster
  • Blaster rifle: A slightly more powerful blaster with faster firing, e.g. Boba Fett's blaster
  • Slingshot: Used by Ewok and Wicket, these weapons sling rocks that turn to dust on impact. Can be enhanced to torpedoes with power brick - Super Ewok Catapults, e.g. Wicket's slingshot
  • Lightsaber: An energy weapon with the power to cut through people/things or reflect blaster bolts, e.g. Luke Skywalkers'.
  • Force pike: A powerful staff. The Imperial Guards wield these.
  • Vibro-axes: A powerful axe-like weapon. Only the Gamorreans wield these.
  • Ionization blaster: Ugnaughts, Jawas, and R2-series models use these against droids roaming free. They stun droids. With the power brick - Super Zapper - you can destroy droids and stun organics.
  • Blaster Pistol: A powerful and rapid fire pistol, e.g Han Solo
  • Thermal Detonators: A bomb that blasts all shiny metallic objects, all bounty hunters can throw this
  • Jetpack Rockets: A rocket that lands in the closest enemy,e.g.Boba Fett
  • Sniper Rifle: A powerful and accurate rifle,Tusken Raiders wield these

True Jedi Status[]

True Jedi Status is attained when you get a certain amount of LEGO studs. Below is listed the True Jedi amounts for each level.

NOTE: When you get True Jedi Status in story mode, you get a bonus 100,000 LEGO studs. This is a good way to get gold bricks and LEGO studs.

Handheld versions[]

Game Boy Advance[]

For the Game Boy Advance, the game is altered for portability reasons (i.e. graphics, fewer characters etc). The Game Boy version has 36 playable characters, fewer than the console versions, although it does feature characters not available in console versions such as a baby Rancor and R2-Q5. Also, Darth Vader is unlocked at an earlier time, and the Scout Trooper and MSE-6 are now playable without extra toggle. The generic Ewok is gone and Wicket's slingshot is replaced with a spear. The player can not mix and match their own character. There are not any power bricks hidden in the levels, and there are no gold bricks to achieve.

Extras

  • Cantina music: Plays music from the cantina during a level.
  • Jabba's Baroque: Plays Jabba's theme.
  • Sith Mode: Turns the player's lightsaber red.
  • Lightsaber blue: Turns the player's lightsaber blue.
  • Lightsaber red: Turns the player's lightsaber red.
  • Lightsaber green: Turns the player's lightsaber green.
  • Jedi Spirit: Turns characters except droids into Force ghosts.
  • Silhouette: Turns the player's character into a silhouette.
  • Clown: Turns character into a clown.
  • Classic: Changes display to classic colors.
  • Bubble Blaster: Makes blasters shoot bubbles.
  • Egg Blaster: Makes blasters shoot eggs.

  • Extra Vehicles: Gives more vehicles.
  • Dancing Girl: Shows Princess Leia (Slave) dancing in the cantina.
  • Washed Out Mode: Shows blurred colors.
  • Monochrome Mode: Changes the display to a black and white screen.

Levels

There are five levels in Episodes 4 and 5 and six levels in Episode 6. A character in each level is unlocked when all ten minikits are collected. The Dagobah level is not in the Game Boy version. Mos Eisley Spaceport and Through the Jundland Wastes are formed as one level. The 128-bit version's "Jedi Destiny" and "Into The Death Star" are reversed.

The list of levels and the character or vehicle unlocked include:

PSP[]

The PlayStation Portable version of LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy contains PlayStation Portable exclusive material including the final levels from Episodes I, II and III of the first LEGO Star Wars game and a challenge mode for each level in LSW II, where the player goes through each level to find all 10 blue minikits in a time limit. If completed, the player will achieve a character from the original Lego Star Wars game.

The cantina's area is made a ghost town featuring only the player and one other character, to make sure the game runs lag-free. The bounty hunter missions are excluded from the game in place of the prequel episodes' levels. Gold bricks cannot be bought from the cantina, and there are much longer loading times.

Otherwise, the PlayStation Portable version contains the same features and gameplay as the console versions, with one reviewer describing it as "having all of the substance, cut-scenes and style of the Xbox 360 version."

Nintendo DS[]

For the Nintendo DS version, the game is altered for portability reasons (i.e., graphics, fewer characters, etc.). The DS version has 50 characters, though they don't exactly match the ones from the console games. In addition to cooperative multiplayer, the DS version allows up to four people to battle wirelessly, where they can choose to fight over Han Solo (Carbonite) in Jabba's Palace or battle in a Tatooine-themed arena. Character swapping is performed by touching icons on the touch screen.

Though generally praised for its gameplay, the original release of the DS version was criticized for its bugs and graphical glitches. Many internet sites accused it of being rushed to the shelves with the other versions of the game and the reissued Star Wars DVD films.

One website was supposedly contacted by anonymous employees of the developer which claimed that the US, European, and Japanese versions were different from each other regarding the bugs, and that a new fixed version would be shipped to shelves after the first print run had sold out.

Cheats for the Nintendo DS[]

Unlock all characters: UDLRAB-- Unlock all extras: ABACAB-- Unlock all clothing in the character editor: 867539-- Unlock all weapons in the character editor: BIGGUN-- Earn 500,000 stud bonus: HGIGHF-- Earn 10 bonus studs: 4PR28U

Critical Reaction[]

The game was mostly favorably received with fans and critics, who praised the gameplay, which focused mainly on fun and exploring. Many considered it superior to the original, mainly due to the improved gameplay, the many new features, such as the character creating aspect and freeform vehicle sections, and other aspects. However, some gamers considered it childish, too simplistic, and even with the adaptable difficulty, very easy.

Awards[]

On December 13, 2006 the game received an award for "best video game based on a TV show or movie" at the Spike TV Video Game Awards.

On December 22, 2006, StarWars.com declared LEGO Star Wars II as Number 1 in Star Wars: The Best of 2006.

Extras[]

Extras are small features that can be turned on and off. Some function as cheats, like "Invincibility", while others are just novelties. Unlike the first LEGO Star Wars, players must earn the ability to buy extras by collecting red Power Bricks.

  • Adaptive difficulty: Already available at the beginning of the game, turning this on means the game will get harder the better you are at playing it.

Available to buy straight away[]

  • Use old save: Allows the use of unlocked characters from the first LEGO Star Wars game, assuming that a save-file of that game is available.
  • Extra toggle: Normally unplayable characters are available to play in certain levels in Free Play, including a skeleton, a scout trooper, a womp rat and many droids that cannot be purchased from the cantina.
  • Fertilizer: Causes animals to poop when the special button is pressed.
  • Disguise: Gives characters a fake nose, black moustache and glasses. Adorns some vehicles as well.
  • Daisy chains: Turns a character's grappling hook rope into a chain of flowers.
  • Chewbacca carrying C-3PO: Chewbacca will carry a partially assembled C-3PO on his back.
  • Tow Death Star: Turns the towable bombs in vehicle-based levels into tiny Death Stars.

Available to buy after finding the relevant Power Brick[]

  • Super blasters: Blasters are twice as powerful as normal.
  • Fast Force: Force-using characters can use the Force on LEGO objects at twice the speed.
  • Super lightsabers: Lightsabers are all purple and twice as powerful as normal.
  • Tractor beam: Vehicles automatically trap enemies in a tractor beam trailing behind them when this extra is switched on.
  • Invincibility: Makes characters resistant to enemy attacks. If a player dies by falling off of a ledge or walking into poisonous gas, no studs are lost.
  • Score x2 (or x4, x6, x8, x10): x2, x4, x6, x8, x10 stud count. Stud multipliers are cumulative, so if all multipliers are turned on the total effect is x3840. Note: If you have all of these on and you enter a double score zone, it becomes x7680.
  • Self destruct: Gives droids the ability to self-destruct with the same effect of thermal detonators.
  • Fast build: Characters can build LEGO objects at twice the speed.
  • Regenerate hearts: Characters regenerate health automatically. This does not work in the same way as the Invincibility extra.
  • Minikit detector: A white arrow will appear showing the location of any Minikit canisters in the area.
  • Super zapper: Astromech, Jawa and Ugnaught zappers can stun anyone and kill droids (except some Jedi and people, because it counts as a mind trick).
  • Bounty hunter rockets: Jango and Boba Fett can shoot rockets from their jetpacks, which have the same strength as thermal detonators. They can lock on to enemies but can also miss them if fired at a wrong angle.
  • Super Ewok catapult: Ewoks launch mini proton torpedoes (instead of the usual rocks that they fire), which have the same strength as thermal detonators.
  • Infinite torpedoes: Vehicles will auto-generate between three and five torpedoes in vehicle-based levels, depending on the vehicle in use.

Available only through cheat codes[]

  • Disguise 2: Gives characters a small red nose. This disguise also works on some vehicles.
  • Disguise 3: Gives characters a fake nose, a white beard, and glasses. This disguise also works on some vehicles.

Codes[]

Input the following codes by talking to the cantina bartender and selecting "cheat codes":

  • CL4U5H - Unlocks Santa hat for custom characters (unavailable to buy)
  • TYH319 - White beard (unavailable to buy)
  • NBP398 - Big Red Nose (unavailable to buy)

Glitches[]

There are eight known glitches:

  • If the second player has money and the first player kills the second player in a double score zone, the money dropped will double when picked up by the first player (fortunately for him.)
  • If you have a saved game file that has some extras on it and you turn them on and you go to another saved game file, the extras will still be turned on even if they are actually locked.
  • If you exit any vehicle with a human, eject and toggle to a droid character and then self-destruct (assuming that extra has been purchased), the droid will be driving that vehicle, and with droidekas, if you eject, the droideka will move without lowering its shield; but the effect is lost by firing.
  • In the "Betrayal over Bespin" level, there is a minikit at the top of the Millennium Falcon that does not disappear in playthroughs after it is obtained. If picked up a second time, the Millennium Falcon's ramp does not lower after all Stormtroopers are killed, making the level impossible to complete without resetting.
  • In the "Battle of Endor" level, (assuming that "Old save" has been bought) while selecting characters in free play, it will select "Clone" by automatic, which it does not do in any other levels.
  • If you go to the extra room in Jedi Destiny you can fall through the floor.
  • In the "Through the Jundland Wastes" level, at the very and outside Ben's house is a "dewback". If you jump on the dewback and run it into the quicksand, you will return playing as the dewback. The effect is lost after toggling to another character, in which case the dewback is then unavailable. this can also happen in the "Jabba's Palace" level while riding on a "B'omarr walker" and falling in a pit.

If you use the cheat above and switch to another character and jump it will duplicate your character.

Errors and inconsistencies[]

There are number of errors and inconsistencies with Star Wars canon that exist in LEGO Star Wars II. They are:

Episode IV: A New Hope[]

  • The "Beach Trooper" was created purely for the game. At no point during any of the Star Wars films can stormtroopers be seen running around in nothing but a helmet and swimming trunks.
  • The "womp rats" that appear in the Tatooine-based levels of the game are actually scurriers.
  • Ben Kenobi gives Luke the lightsaber before Leia's message is activated but in the game Ben gives Luke the lightsaber just because of Leia's message.
  • Ben Kenobi only cuts off one of Ponda Baba's arms in the film—in a cutscene from the game it's both - however, later on in the cutscene Ponda loses his legs and body as well showing that he is killed in the game.
  • In the film, Garindan (the "Imperial Spy") is purely an Imperial informant and has no contact with any of the main characters.
  • Han and Chewbacca are present in the Death Star chasm scene (Luke and Leia were only present in that particular scene).
  • The Dianoga does not attack Luke, though is heard if you stay in the garbage shute.
  • The Jawas don't steal the droids from the Lars in the movie.
  • All the sand Troopers have orange shoulders.
  • Instead of attacking Luke Dr. Evazan simply watches and flees the cantina after Ponda Baba is killed.
  • In the game Garindan tries to sneak into the Rebel cerimony but is led away, though this part may be new cannon.

Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back[]

  • In the movie, the Wampa's right arm is cut off. In the game, it's his left arm.
  • In the film only Luke battles the image of Vader on Dagobah, not with Yoda.
  • The cave is one room in the movie while it's severel in the game.
  • During the Battle of Hoth, the Millennium Falcon is shown disabling an Imperial flotilla of Star Destroyers to allow Rebel transports to escape. At no point in the films or EU is this shown.
  • Luke and R2 are shown arriving on Bespin before Han, Leia, Chewie, and Threepio do.
  • The Minikit of Slave I that is unlockable is wrongly titled Slave 1.
  • When Darth Vader tells Luke that he's his father, he has a picture of his younger self and Padmé, but in the movie he has no picture. This was done for comedic effect.
  • Imperial Probe Droids' are present during the Battle of Hoth (Although this appears in all Star Wars Games).

Episode VI: Return of the Jedi[]

  • In the game, the entire main cast (Except Leia) confronts the rancor, rather than just Luke.
  • Palpatine battles Luke and Vader in the game, while the film version of the scene shows him simply watching. This is done to maintain the 2-player gameplay in the game.
    • Also, Palpatine uses his lightsaber.
  • Luke and Leia destroy an Imperial platform on Endor.
  • Leia is present when the heroes are trapped in the Ewok trap.
  • There are rebel troopers on Endor in the movie
  • Luke arrives at Jabba`s Palace first in the game, while in the movie it's only Leia and Chewbacca (besides the two droids).
  • Not only Leia,Luke C-3PO and R2-D2 free Han(it was only Leia in the Movie).
  • Leia never enters Jabbas Throne room.
