Nute Gunray was the elected leader of the Trade Federation from shortly after the Stark Hyperspace War in 44 BBY until the fall of the CIS at the end of the Clone Wars, when he was killed by Darth Sidious's new apprentice, Darth Vader on Mustafar. He was even responsible for the blockade of Naboo, shortly before the Clone Wars began.

Nute Gunray can be killed in three different ways, two of which being non-canon.
- (Non-canon) Gunray can be killed by Padme Amidala on Naboo in the Phantom Menace video game.
- (Non-canon) Gunray can be killed by Mace Windu on Geonosis in the Attack of the Clones video game.
- (Canon) Nute Gunray will die by being killed by Anakin Skywalker on Mustafar in the Revenge of the Sith video game.
