Gameplay and navigation[]

The gameplay is mostly vehicular and primarily is based on the ground, however various missions involve the use of Republic Gunships to transport troops and complete objectives. The player's HUD has a special ability meter on the left, with a damage indicator next to it. The damage indicator has a blue glow around it and as the vehicle's health is depleted the glow is reduced until the shields have been fully depleted. After the shields have been depleted the vehicle's mini icon, which represents the hull strength, looses its color. When the mini-icon has lost all color the player's vehicle has been destroyed. The target reticule has enemy health information in it, and there is a radar on the right of the players screen, showing all nearby enemies.

The main screen is the bridge of a Acclamator I-class assault ship. By clicking on options and extras; the player will go to one of the crew's screens where the extras can be viewed. If the player clicks on multiplayer the screen will show the hanger whilst the player selects the multiplayer game options. The last option the player can choose is the single player, campaign mode. The screen will show a galaxy map with the planets of the game on, from there the player can select which level to play.

In the single player mode, most planets in the game have two or three missions, however some only have one mission. There are 16 total missions and six planets to choose from and unlock mostly in order. Each mission consists of several objectives, such as destroying a target or protecting a transport, along with two to three bonus objectives, such as protecting all of the transports so none are destroyed. The bonuses are used to unlock extras in the option menu such as a gallery of vehicles, concept art of the levels and vehicles, and various production videos. Various cheat codes can offer in-game bonuses such as unlimited ammo or invincibility and can also unlock various extras.

Plot[]

Geonosis[]

Just before the Battle of Geonosis, Mace Windu and Luminara Unduli were sent to eliminate the Geonosian and separatist defense forces on Geonosis. Their next objective was to eliminate the enemy forces at a nearby landing zone so the transports that the Jedi were using could land. After the arena battle, Mace Windu has to lead a group of elite clone troopers to take out the Separatist ships, including some Techno union and Trade Federation core ships. After taking out the escaping separatist ships, Mace Windu encounters three Dark Acolytes and managed to destroy them.

Rhen Var[]

The Republic forces on Rhen Var had to be evacutated after a separatist attack. The Jedi, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker manned Republic Gunships and other vehicles in the attempt to slow the separatist attack and to rescue various other Jedi. As the evacuation ends, the Confederacy begins to destroy the Republic outpost. The separatist attack on Rhen Var was part of Count Dooku's plot to gain control of the Dark Reaper, however the Jedi do not realize this until after the evacuation.

Raxus Prime[]

One month after the start of the Clone Wars, and shortly after the evacuation on Rhen Var, Republic intelligence spies find unusual separatist movement on the waste planet, Raxus Prime. A small team of clones were assembled and were led by Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi to investigate the reasons behind the separatist movement.

Anakin and Obi-Wan scout the nearby surroundings of their landing zone and encounter an enemy scout party. After destroying the scout party they locate a separatist excavation site and contact the commander for reinforcements. They then destroy enemy supply bases in an attempt to delay the separatist whilst they wait for reinforcements.

After some time reinforcements land and they fight their way to the excavation site, where there is a second group of Republic forces ready to ambush the enemy base. They destroy the shield generator allowing all of their forces to enter the battlefield at the same time and overwhelm defenders. At this point Count Dooku escapes the battle by fleeing in his ship. Anakin sees this and tries to intercept him.

After the Seperatist main ships retreat, the Confederates unleash their deadliest machine yet, the Protodeka. The Protodeka destroys most of the Republic forces with a suprise attack, forcing Obi-Wan to single-handedly fight the machine and destroy it. By the end of the battle Dooku's ship has already left the system as had Anakin and another part of the Dark Reaper.

Alaris Prime[]

After Anakin chased Count Dooku on Raxus Prime, he was captured and sent to Alaris Prime, the Kashyyyk moon, to be executed. Anakin and the other prisoners, including the mercenary Bera Kazan, are to be executed by the Force Harvester, an ancient Sith weapon that drains the Force from all living things, and is also a part of the Dark Reaper. Anakin used the Force to break free from his cell, along with the mercenary Bera. After freeing the other condemned prisoners they stole two Single Trooper Aerial Platforms. Seconds later, the Harvester becomes fully charged and began to absorb the Force from moon's forest, it destroyed half of the moon's forests as Anakin and Bera were trying to escape from the Harvester's blast radius. Eventually, they passed through a small Wookiee village and reached a safe area out of the blast radius of the Force Harvester.

The CIS had jammed all planetary communications so Anakin and Bera had to reach the communication jammer in order to alert the Republic forces to their location. Using a stolen Armored Assault Tank, Anakin and Bera infiltrated a CIS communication outpost and sent a distress signal to the Republic forces nearby. The CIS then attacked the single remaining Wookiee village on the moon so, with the use of traps, Anakin and Bera blocked the droid forces from reaching the village. However, they were unable to set traps and defend the north of the village where the main section of the enemy's army is entering. They were forced to defend the village in their vehicle until Obi-Wan Kenobi arrived with Republic forces. Then they were able to defeat the Separatist armies and followed them as they retreated to their dropship, the Harbinger. Together Obi-Wan and Anakin destroyed the Harbinger in their TX-130S's, stopping the Separatist attack. Bera survived the battle and went elsewhere whilst the Wookiees also had to move elsewhere after the destruction of their homes.

When the two Jedi return to the military base, Mace Windu informs them of the Force Harvester and its part in the Dark Reaper. They then returned to Rhen Var in an attempt to look at the teachings of Ulic Qel-Droma, the only person able to withstand the Force Harvester.

Return to Rhen Var[]

Rhen Var was the location of the tomb of Ulic Qel-Droma and his teachings were vital to destroy the Dark Reaper. Due to this, Obi-Wan and Anakin launch an assault on the planet with Anakin fighting in the air and Obi-Wan on the ground. The size of the force overwhelms the Separatist droid defenses and Obi-Wan is able to reach the temple. Anakin has to fight with Spectral Guardians, to reach Qel-Droma's tomb. He defeats them and finds Qel-Droma's tomb, where he learns how to withstand the effects of the Dark Reaper for a short time.

Thule[]

The attack on Thule, the location of the Dark Reaper, was divided into four sections due to the large power of Separatist defenders. Anakin Skywalker and his team took out the shield on the Thule moon, which allowed Obi-Wan Kenobi to perform an aerial attack on the fortified positions on Thule in a Republic Gunship. He destroyed the Communications Installation so the Separatist couldn't organize a counter attack or alert each other to the threat. Mace Windu then commanded the ground forces around Thule's capital city and surrounded it. During the combat, Cydon Prax, Dooku's replacement for Jango Fett, destroys Mace Windu's TX-130S. Mace was then forced to travel on foot to open the gates to the Sith temple, which would allow Anakin Skywalker and his team to enter the Sith Temple and confront the Dark Reaper. Anakin Skywalker then kills Cydon Prax without any aid, allowing him to get nearer to his target. Because Anakin is the only person who is immune to the effects of the Dark Reaper, he battles and defeats the Dark Reaper alone with Qel-Dromas's guidance in his TX-130S. However, the knowledge he gained from the Sith, Ulic Qel-Droma, causes him to act more arrogantly towards Obi-Wan and take another step towards the dark side of the Force.

Combat[]

Most of the combat is vehicular based, however there are various levels that involve some non-vehicular combat. It should be noted that only Obi-Wan Kenobi is not playable out of vehicles during the one player campaign mode.

Non-vehicular combat can be difficult due to the main part of the game being focused on vehicular combat, however basic lightsaber and Force powers are included in the game. Among the powers available, there is lightsaber throw, Force push (which destroys enemies instead of pushing them) and various Force-aided lightsaber moves. If the player presses the primary attack button, the character will attack with its lightsaber in the appropriate way to hit the target in front of it. This means that if the target is on the players right then the attack will adapt to attack the enemy on the right of the player, instead of attacking directly in front of the player's sight. In multiplayer academy mode on Geonosis other non-lightsaber wielding characters can be used. They simply fire blaster pistols with the primary fire button.

In Star Wars: The Clone Wars, vehicular combat involves two methods of firing and a special action. The primary fire is usually standard laser fire, and the secondary is often concussion missiles or equivalents which may have limited ammo. The special action varies from vehicle to vehicle and recharges over time. Most vehicles use the speed boost special action, which greatly increases the vehicles speed for a short time however other vehicles have 'super shields' and other bonuses. One notable example of a unique special bonus is the Republic Gunship's, which is the laser turrets. The laser turrets will automatically fire on nearby targets without the need to aim.

Multiplayer mode[]

There are various two player game modes in Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

They are:

  • Academy mode; academy mode is where two players are in an arena and they fight off waves of enemies until all players are defeated. There are bonus rounds in which both players fight each other for bonus points however players will respawn in this round. Academy mode can be played on the Thule moon, in vehicles, or in the Geonosis arena on foot.
  • Duel Mode; duel mode is one versus one combat. It can be played on the Kashyyyk, Rhen Var, Thule and Raxus Prime.
  • Control Zone; control zone is similar to Capture the Flag. In this mode the player fights to control a certain zone for as long as possible. It can be played on the Thule Moon, Thule, and Raxus Prime.
  • Conquest; conquest mode is when each player controls a base and must defend it with the aid of turrets whilst attacking the enemies base. It can be played on Geonosis, Kashyyyk, the Thule moon, and Rhen Var.
