To gamify is to modify an article that is written as an encyclopedia should (or has just been written sloppily and needs to be re-written), but should be re-written to better describe a game-related topic so that it fits better on Star Wars Games. The term gamification can also mean to gamify. Please note that the term gamify on Star Wars Games is different then Wookieepedia's wookify.
There are many aspects to this task, as listed below.
Text[]
- Star Wars articles that are on Star Wars Games will begin with statements showing useful information about the topic, although if it is a game (or a article that is not a in-universe topic) it may be written differently. Because Star Wars Games specializes in gaming it should have more or as much content as other video games sources.
For game articles, see the opening lines of Starwars:Star Wars: Battlefront II:
- Star Wars: Battlefront II is the sequel to Star Wars: Battlefront. It is the best-selling Star Wars game ever.
"Wow, that is informing." This can, and should, look more like something like this:
- Star Wars: Battlefront II is a first-person shooter/third-person shooter (interchangeable) video game developed by Pandemic Studios and LucasArts, and released in North America on November 1, 2005, for Microsoft Windows, Xbox, PlayStation Portable, and the PlayStation 2. It is the second game of the highly successful Star Wars: Battlefront Series.
For articles in-universe-related, see the opening lines of Starwars:Juno Eclipse below:
- Juno Eclipse was a Imperial pilot during the Great Jedi Purge. She was a pilot of the Rogue Shadow and had a relationship with Darth Vader's Secret Apprentice.
That is alright but it could be a bit more informing:
- Juno Eclipse was a Human female and Imperial pilot during the Great Jedi Purge. She was a pilot of the Rogue Shadow.
- The opening pharagraph should not begin with spoilers unless it is absolutely necessary (i.e.- unless they are Star Wars Game-related topics that actually are spoilers). Such articles will need the beginnings to be slightly re-written in order to give it as little of a spoiler introduction as possible.
Links[]
- Removing any unneeded or off topic links, such as the article, "the", is absolutely necessary, although gamified articles should have a sufficent amount of links to aid in things such as navigation. An example of a correct opening of an article with multiple links can be seen below:
- Boba Fett was a Bounty hunter from Battlefront II and Star Wars Battlefront: Renegade Squadron for the Galactic Empire. Fett was armed with an EE-3 carbine rifle, Wrist rockets, and his flamethrower.
- Editors should be very careful not to create red links by misspelling, confusing the number of the article's title (e.g.- "Stormtroopers" versus "Stormtrooper"... etc.). This only creates a demand for unneeded redirect pages and extra work. If an article that was edited contains a red link to a page the editor knows exists, he should figure out the discrepancy between the actual title and the link he created, and alter the link to match the title. In cases where redirect pages are reasonable, however, (such as when a red link contains a legitimate alternative for the real article), feel free to create a redirect page. Redirect pages should be made to aid in navigation, and links in articles that are redirects shouldn't be there, but should link to the article that it was intended to be.
Lists[]
- Some articles may need to be put together to form a list for things such as minor characters, planets, weapons, companies, vehicles, ships, weapons, or species (e.g. List of KotOR weapons... etc.).
- Fixing any links that point to lists so that they point to the correct section (or as close to the correct section as possible) of the article is also necessary.
Categories and templates[]
- Cleaning up the categories, both the removal of irrelevant categories and the addition of the correct categories, is strongly encouraged.
- Templates should be working properly, and should not be modified unless necessary to avoid a possible mistake in the code as well as to avoid any possible confusion.
- Editors should preview their edits especially when editing templates or pages that have content that change all users interfaces.
